On October 23, the Physical Review Journal Club hosts Concettina Sfienti and Sonia Bacca (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Germany), discussing how the the A1 Collaboration at Mainz Microtron (MAMI) in Germany measured the excited state of the 𝛼 particle via inelastic electron scattering. The team's findings, published in Physical Review Letters and summarized in Physics Magazine,significantly improves the precision compared to previous measurements and confirms the initial discrepancy surrounding the excitation from the ground state 0^{+1} to the first excited state 0^{+2}. The results yield new insights into the spatial structure of the 0^{+2} state while touching on fundamental questions about our understanding of nuclear interactions.
                                               
                                               Sfienti and Bacca will provide a short presentation of their results followed by a live question-and-answer session where all attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the research moderated by Dean Lee, Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, Michigan State University.
