The Nuclear Theory group at the Florida State University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position for the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for nuclear theory.
The position will focus on the application of reduced basis methods to the understanding of the structure, dynamics, and composition of neutron stars, as well as to extension few- and many-body methods for the description of exotic nuclei at the limits of nuclear stability.
The successful candidate will be working with Jorge Piekarewicz (theoretical nuclear astrophysics) and Kevin Fossez (theoretical nuclear structure) as part of the STREAMLINE collaboration, which is a broad coalition of researchers across the U.S. working to solve some of the most challenging computational problem in theoretical nuclear physics through innovation and application of some of the most sophisticated algorithms in AI/ML.
The position will start in January 2024 and will be for 2+1 years, contingent upon funding. Appointments at earlier starting dates can be considered. To apply, go on jobs.fsu.edu, click on Search Jobs, and enter the Job ID 55969.
Applicants must have received a PhD from an accredited graduate program in Physics or related field. If the applicant is a current student, a confirmation of eligibility must be submitted. Exceptions can be made on an individual basis when justifiable and accompanied by supporting documents with prior approval from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. The process of reviewing applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
